Red Faction will more than likely run fine under Vista. There are, however, a few occasions where it won't without some help. Try this:
1. Open the start menu and scroll to your Red Faction shortcut.
2. Right-click the shortcut and select properties.
3. In the properties dialog select the compatibility tab.
4. On the compatibility tab check "run in compatibility mode."
The default settings should otherwise be fine; it should be set to "Windows XP Service Pack 2." One more thing, you may have to follow the above steps for the RF.exe file in your Red Faction directory (C:GamesRedFaction by default) as well.

Have you tried a reinstall? Driver updates? Do other games work?

Well my laptop doesnt have very high specs but it has a sticker with vista capable, so i tryed my illegal copy of Vista, Multi boot. so i can still use my XP if something doenst work its installed on a portable HDD. i'm not going to reinstall RF because it still runs fine on XP so its deffinatly a Vista problem. I havent downloaded any vista drivers yet, still all my hardware runs fine. I did use the vista upgrade adviser before installing, the only thing it said from my hardware was that i should get more space on my C:\ drive, but since i wasnt installing it on C that wasnt a problem.
I only tryed Guild Wars, wich runs, but with a lower Framerate then it does on XP. but i heard this is normal with games on vista.
Also, i tryed setting rf.exe to "Windows XP Service Pack 2." mode but this didnt solve anything. even the THQ+Volition logo's are messed up
I didnt have much tiem to type this so sorry if i misspelled some word or forgot Capitals.
Still i like vista now that i got internet on it. i'm having fun making that toolbar customized. xD

INSTALL DRIVERS! For me, XP includes generic video drivers which let me browse the web etc, but as soon as I fire up a game, XP crashes.

I installed and updated the video driver to a vista one, still doesnt work. i tested other games (Warcraft III, Worms4, Half Life,...) They work fine. Its not a big problem because i can still restart and start XP, but its handy when i dont have to do that. when i "made my step" to permanently change to vista i'm formatting and deleting XP, so then i really want to play RF
What video chipset does your laptop have? Speaking of chipsets, does anyone know if there's been an onboard chipset based off of the new NVidia line yet?

Well ghostkid I can assure you that your problem with vista is due to your graphic driver as I had exact same problem with my windows vista business, same screen as you have here. and as soon as I updated my graphics driver it now works fine.
yet again curse you vista!! curse YOU!!!! why did you install vista right now anyway its really bugy?

I have nothing to lose. I downloaded it. I got it for free from Microsoft. They like me.
and i wanted to test it on my laptop. works well actually. better then i expected!
I will be moving on to Vista probably between this and a year. RF or no RF..
I'll still keep open the "Why" question... There's just no reason to switch yet.
Let Microshaftsoft work out all the kinks before you buy it
That'll be another good year or 2.

I have not had any problems with Vista Home Premium, except the fact that it's hard to set up a wired network. Vista looks like its designed for wireless mainly
